Despite the interception of ballistic missiles during the attack on January 18, there are significant damages in Kyiv. The Air Force provided an explanation for why this occurred.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing an exclusive comment from the head of the communications department of the Air Force Command, Yuriy Ignat.

"Ballistic missiles are extremely challenging targets for interception. Both missiles that attacked Kyiv were shot down," he stated.

According to Ignat, one of the missiles was intercepted at a low altitude, which may lead to consequences from the shockwave during the combat operation.

The military added that despite the interception, fragments of the downed missiles cannot simply vanish into thin air; they will inevitably fall to the ground.

"And, unfortunately, they can also cause severe consequences on the ground, as the missile's warhead might detonate after it has been shot down. This can happen," noted the Air Force representative.

Therefore, as Ignat emphasized, it is crucial to adhere to safety measures.
