The Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, will arrive in Ukraine "for a high-level meeting." The visit to Kyiv is scheduled for February 4.
This is reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing the organization's website.
During the meeting, as stated in the press release, the current efforts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to prevent a nuclear accident amid the military conflict will be discussed.
"As long as this terrible war continues, the IAEA will be present and remain active, focusing on doing everything possible to maintain nuclear safety in extremely challenging circumstances. Since the overall situation remains unstable and fragile, our work there is crucial," Grossi said.
It is noted that this will be Grossi's 11th mission to Ukraine since the onset of the war between Russia and Ukraine, demonstrating the IAEA's unwavering commitment to assist Ukraine in ensuring nuclear safety.
The IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi is not visiting Ukraine for the first time. For instance, Grossi visited Kyiv in February 2024. During that visit, he met with Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko and representatives of "Energoatom."
At the same time, in June 2023, Grossi postponed a planned trip to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant due to potential risks posed by the Russian destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.
