American General Jasper Jeffers commended the efforts of the Lebanese army in demining operations. The military is clearing the southern regions of Lebanon, where clashes occurred between the Israeli army and the Hezbollah group.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing the Central Command of the United States Armed Forces (CENTCOM).
On January 7, the co-chair of the Ceasefire Implementation Mechanism, American General Jasper Jeffers, along with French Brigadier General Guillaume Ponchin, visited the headquarters of the 5th Brigade of the Lebanese Armed Forces in the southwest of the country. It is located five kilometers northeast of Nakura, one of the two cities from which Israeli troops were withdrawn as part of the ceasefire agreement.
It was noted that under the transition facilitated by the Mechanism, the Lebanese army promptly deployed troops to the area to clear roads, remove unauthorized munitions, and ensure the safety of the Lebanese people.
"Jeffers and Ponchin inspected the stockpile of weapons set for destruction in the coming days, which the Lebanese army seized from unauthorized armed groups," stated the U.S. Embassy in Beirut.
According to Jeffers, "The Lebanese Armed Forces are the legitimate guarantor of the country's security and continue to demonstrate that they possess the capability, intent, and leadership qualities necessary to ensure the safety and protection of Lebanon."
"They act decisively, swiftly, and with clear expertise. Today we witnessed an example of this through the soldiers of the 5th Brigade. The engineering and demining corps, in particular, is composed of true professionals who weekly extract and neutralize hundreds of unexploded munitions," added Jeffers.

Since the invasion of Israeli territory by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023, terrorists from the Lebanese group Hezbollah have been regularly shelling Israeli territory with drones and rockets.
In September 2024, The Israel Defense Forces eliminated virtually all of Hezbollah's leadership, and on September 30, Israeli military forces began a ground operation against the group in southern Lebanon.
On November 27, a ceasefire was established between Israel and Hezbollah. Under the agreement, Israelis will withdraw their troops from Lebanon over a period of 60 days, and the regular Lebanese army will take control of the territory in the south of the country. This will ensure that Hezbollah does not return to these areas.
As a result of the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the Lebanese group Hezbollah lost its supply routes for weapons through Syria.
