France is prepared to utilize its nuclear deterrent capabilities to help safeguard Europe. Nuclear-capable fighters may be deployed to Germany.
This information comes from RBK-Ukraine, citing The Telegraph.
According to the publication, the option of stationing French nuclear fighters in Germany is being considered in light of the United States' announcements regarding the withdrawal of its troops from the continent.
A French official told The Telegraph that the deployment of these fighters would send a clear message to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. It should also prompt UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to take similar actions as France.
"Deploying a few French nuclear fighters in Germany would be straightforward and would serve as a strong signal," the source stated.
It is worth noting that the United States has long guaranteed Europe's security, possessing around 100 nuclear missiles, many of which are stationed at an American military base in Germany.
Currently, France's nuclear deterrent forces are independent of NATO, while the UK's deterrent forces are a crucial part of the alliance's defense strategy.
The current President of the United States, Donald Trump, has repeatedly urged NATO allies to boost their defense spending. Furthermore, last year he threatened them by stating that he would "encourage" Russia to "do whatever it wants" with Alliance members who fail to meet their financial commitments to the military-political bloc.
In January, Trump called on NATO members to raise their defense spending to 5% of GDP.
Recently, the German Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz called for negotiations with France and the UK regarding nuclear protection. This comes in response to threats from the US administration to withdraw support for Europe.
