Fico sent a letter to EU leaders, expressing concerns about Zelensky due to the halt of gas transit.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has sent a letter to European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. In the letter, he reiterates his concerns regarding Ukraine's refusal to extend the transit of Russian gas beyond 2024.
Фицо обратился к лидерам ЕС с жалобой на Зеленского из-за остановки транзита газа.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has written a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. In the letter, he again expresses concerns about Ukraine's refusal to extend the transit of Russian gas after 2024.

As reported by RBK-Ukraine, Fico published the relevant letter on his Facebook.

In his letter, Fico tells the EU leaders that "the silent consent to the unilateral decision by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is wrong and irrational."

According to him, this allegedly "will lead to tensions and retaliatory measures."

"There is no doubt that the unilateral decision of the Ukrainian president will have a significant negative impact on our joint European efforts to keep pace with rapidly developing countries," Fico wrote.

The Slovak Prime Minister stated that he does not know whether the "vague approach" of the European Commission and the majority of member states is based on the fact that the economic consequences of stopping gas transit through Ukraine "have not been professionally analyzed at all, and everything has been evaluated only ideologically," or if such an analysis was conducted but not openly discussed with the member states.

He also claims that stopping gas transit will harm the EU more than Russia, citing "objective and convincing documents" from the Slovak oil and gas company SPP.

The head of the Slovak government urged EU leaders to "pay due attention to this unprecedented situation and give it urgent significance."

Threats from Fico

Earlier, we reported that Ukraine decided to stop the transit of Russian gas to Europe starting January 1, 2025. However, this will affect Slovakia, which relies on Russian gas. Despite this, Kyiv immediately rejected any options for continuing the transit, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine can transport gas to Europe, but only if it is not Russian.

Recently, Fico held a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, during which they discussed Ukraine's refusal to transit Russian gas. Following that, Fico threatened to stop electricity supplies to Ukraine.

RBK-Ukraine reported that Fico's threats to halt electricity supplies will not affect Ukraine's energy security.
