ЕС рассматривает возможность ослабления санкций против Сирии, но пока это не касается всех ограничений, сообщает Reuters.

The European Union may soon suspend sanctions against Syria, particularly concerning energy and transportation.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Reuters.

According to a statement from three diplomats and a document reviewed by Reuters, the European Union has not yet reached an agreement on whether to ease restrictions on financial transactions related to Syria.

EU foreign ministers will discuss this matter tomorrow, January 27, at a meeting in Brussels.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Kallas previously stated that he hopes a political agreement can be reached regarding the easing of sanctions during the meeting.

It is worth noting that the sanctions imposed on Syria primarily targeted the country's government and its key allies.

These measures were introduced in response to the events surrounding the civil war that began in 2011, human rights violations, suppression of protests, and the use of chemical weapons.

However, European nations have started to restore relations with Syria, as the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad has weakened significantly. In recent weeks, rebels have captured key cities in the country, including the capital, Damascus.
