The dollar continues to rise: what are the exchange rates at currency exchange offices?

The exchange rate of the dollar at currency exchange points in Ukraine has continued to rise. The dollar is gaining value in line with the interbank foreign exchange market.

The exchange rate of the dollar in exchange offices across Ukraine continued to rise. The dollar is increasing in value in line with the interbank currency market.

This information is reported by RBC-Ukraine citing market monitoring data.

As of the morning of January 8, the average selling rate of the dollar in Ukraine has risen by 5 kopecks to 42.75 hryvnias, while the euro rate remained unchanged at 44.50 hryvnias.

In exchange offices, the dollar is being bought at an average of 42.25 hrynias, and the euro at 43.80 hrynias.

On the interbank market, the rate today stands at 42.24-42.30 UAH/dollar (buying-selling) - a decrease of 3 kopecks compared to the previous day's closing.

Official Rate

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has raised the dollar exchange rate against the hryvnia. The dollar has once again reached a historical maximum.

The official rate as of January 8, 2025, is set at 42.2297 hrynias per 1 dollar (+0.0338 UAH).

The previous maximum was on January 7, 2024 - 42.1959 hrynias per 1 dollar.

The official euro rate will be 43.8767 hrynias per 1 euro (-0.0324 UAH).

Ukraine's International Reserves

According to the NBU, Ukraine's international reserves increased by 9.7% in December and as of January 1, 2025, amounted to 43.788 billion dollars - a record level in history.

The reserves grew thanks to inflows from international partners totaling 9.4 billion dollars. Of this amount:

  • 4.4 billion dollars - macro-financial assistance from the EU;
  • 3.9 billion dollars - from the World Bank, including through the DPL mechanism from the USA, Japan, and the UK;
  • 1.1 billion dollars - from the IMF.

As noted by the NBU, last year Ukraine received significant global financial support - according to balance sheet data, about 42 billion dollars. The largest financial assistance came from the European Union - 17.5 billion dollars, the United States of America - 6.8 billion dollars, the World Bank - 6.1 billion dollars, the IMF - 5.3 billion dollars, Japan - 4.3 billion dollars, and Canada - 1.8 billion dollars.
