Completion of basic military training (BMT) is mandatory for all university students. If a student fails the exam or refuses to take the military oath, they will not be able to continue their education.
This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Serhiy Melnyk, as reported by RBK-Ukraine referring to the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Defense.
"I want to emphasize that it (BMT - ed.) is compulsory for everyone. If students, for any reason, cannot pass the exam or fail it, or if they refuse to take the military oath, they will not be able to pursue their education in higher educational institutions in the future," Melnyk said.
We remind you that from September 1, 2025, basic military training will be introduced in higher educational institutions. It will consist of theoretical and practical courses. The theoretical part must be completed by both men and women. The practical part is mandatory for men. At the same time, if women wish to take the practical course of BMT, they will need to undergo a medical commission, be deemed fit for military service, and register with the TCC.
Additionally, we reported that some students will be exempt from BMT. This applies to those who are unfit, as well as those who have already completed military service.
