U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the Department of Defense to prepare a plan for troops to support the border mission. This directive followed the declaration of a state of emergency at the border with Mexico.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing the White House and CNN.

Trump instructed Pentagon leadership or military service secretaries to prepare "as many units or members of the Armed Forces, including the readiness reserve and National Guard, as the Secretary of Defense deems necessary" to maintain security at the border.

It should be noted that the emergency declared today by the new president allows for additional use of Department of Defense resources at the border.

Trump's directive also requires the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security to collaborate with the Attorney General to review policies where possible to ensure that "the policy of using force prioritizes the safety" of Pentagon and Homeland Security personnel at the border.

"The sovereignty of America is under attack... This assault on the American people and the integrity of America's sovereign borders poses a serious threat to our nation," Trump stated on Monday.

He added that due to the severity and emergency of this "current danger and imminent threat," it is necessary for the Armed Forces to "take all necessary measures to assist the Department of Homeland Security in gaining full operational control of the southern border."

The additional executive order includes a directive for the head of the Pentagon to present requirements for preparation and assessment regarding the NORTHCOM mission for "securing the borders and maintaining the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of the United States."

In a conversation with reporters, a U.S. defense department representative stated on Monday that the Pentagon is "fully committed to executing the orders of our Commander-in-Chief and is doing so immediately under his guidance."

Currently, approximately 2,200 U.S. troops are stationed at the border as part of a task force led by Northern Command (Joint Task Force-North).

These troops are authorized to perform actions such as data entry, vehicle maintenance, transportation, training, detection, and monitoring, a JTFN representative told CNN on Monday.

Trump Signed Orders to Strengthen Border Protection

As previously reported, on his first day in office, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a list of executive actions on immigration, which includes designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. This could enable the use of military forces on Mexican territory.

Recognizing cartels as foreign terrorist organizations may also lead to stricter financial sanctions and legal consequences in the U.S. against those involved.

Trump also signed an order declaring a state of emergency at the southern border of the U.S. (with Mexico), which will result in the deployment of additional Pentagon resources and the mobilization of armed forces to complete the construction of the border wall, among other measures. His focus is solely on the security of the southern border.
