The Czech company Škoda JS, part of the ČEZ group, has secretly supplied new equipment for a nuclear power plant to Ukraine. This equipment is intended for the reactors of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Novinky.
Before Christmas, the company delivered eight drives for two VVER 440 type reactors.
Karel Samec, a spokesperson for the engineering company in Plzeň, noted that the announcement of the equipment supplies was made only now due to Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
The company explained that the equipment ensures stable reactor operation and allows for regulation, which will help maintain reliable electricity supplies.
Recently, ÚJV Řež, also part of the ČEZ group, manufactured and supplied a special cable to strengthen the reactor's containment building. It weighs 13 tons and measures 173 meters.
According to the contract, Škoda JS sent 76 accumulators to the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant. Most of them are already installed and operational. The contract's value has not been disclosed.
ŠKODA JS is currently the only manufacturer in the world supplying this type of drives to Ukrainian nuclear power plants. Similar drives are produced by Russia.
The company hopes to expand its cooperation, particularly with the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant.
It is worth noting that nuclear power plants are one of the main sources of energy supply in Ukraine, especially in light of the massive Russian attacks on the energy sector.
Currently, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the largest in Europe, is under Russian occupation. The Russians disregard the safety of the nuclear power plant, and the facility often finds itself on the brink of blackout.
Amidst the intense shelling of Ukraine's energy system, discussions have emerged regarding the construction of small modular reactors. To learn more about this technology, check out the report by RBK-Ukraine.
