The combat readiness level of many units of the German armed forces is only 50%. Additionally, the army needs to recruit more soldiers.
This was stated by the Bundestag commissioner for the armed forces, Eva Hegl, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing ntv.
According to the Berlin politician from the SPD, approximately 20,000 more men and women are needed to reach the target of 203,000 soldiers. In this regard, she urges to intensify efforts to recruit personnel for the Bundeswehr.
"Moreover, many positions remain unfilled," Hegl stated.
Speaking about the actual level of combat readiness, she noted that in many units, the figure is only around 50%. The politician warned that "this is clearly insufficient," given the tense security situation following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Recall that in November, it became known that Germany had begun large-scale preparations for a potential conflict with Russia. According to experts, such a confrontation could have a more significant impact on the country than the war in Ukraine.
