В США банк ошибочно зачислил клиенту 81 триллион долларов.

One of the banks in the USA made an erroneous transaction. As a result of the mistake, Citigroup accidentally credited a client's account with 81 trillion dollars.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing Financial Times.

Citigroup credited the client's account with 81 trillion dollars, while intending to send only 280 dollars.

The erroneous internal transfer occurred in April of last year, but it had not been reported earlier. Both the payment department employee and a second employee, assigned to verify the transaction before it was approved for processing at the beginning of the next day's work, overlooked the payment.

A third employee discovered the issue with the account balances, noting the payment 90 minutes after it was made. The publication reports that the payment was ultimately canceled, but only after a few hours.

The erroneous payment to Citi Revlon resulted in the dismissal of then-CEO Michael Corbat, hefty fines, and regulatory mandates requiring the bank to rectify the situation.

It is worth noting that this is not the first incident in banking history. A few years ago, a major Spanish bank, Santander, mistakenly duplicated transfers to 75,000 employees from 2,000 British companies. In total, they received 175 million dollars. It should be added that all transfers were made on Christmas.

Additionally, RBC-Ukraine reported that fraudsters continue to use various methods to steal confidential information from Ukrainians' bank cards.

The most common schemes are telephone fraud and phishing. Information on how banking fraud works in Ukraine can be found in the RBC-Ukraine article.
