President Vladimir Zelensky met with his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog. The parties addressed shared challenges faced by both nations.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Office of the President.
"The head of the Ukrainian state emphasized the importance of releasing hostages. Ukrainians understand the anguish of having loved ones held captive and rejoice alongside everyone when people return home from captivity," stated the Office of the President.
During the talks, the president also expressed hope for continued security and stability throughout the entire Middle East region.
In particular, the parties discussed common challenges faced by both countries and agreed on directions for further cooperation, primarily in the field of security.
The Office of the President added that among the main topics of discussion were ways to achieve a just and sustainable peace.
On January 16, Tel Aviv and the Islamist movement Hamas reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages. Just last week, Israel’s security cabinet and government approved the agreement, which took effect on Sunday, January 19.
On Sunday, Hamas released primarily three civilian women - Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher.
