There is a possibility of radioactive substance leakage at Chernobyl, but radiation levels remain normal, according to the chief engineer.

Following the entry of a Russian drone into the Chernobyl shelter, there is a possibility of radioactive substances being released. However, no increase in radiation levels has been detected so far.
Главный инженер сообщил, что вероятность утечки радиоактивных веществ на ЧАЭС существует, но в настоящее время уровень радиации в пределах нормы.

After the Russian drone struck the Chernobyl shelter, there is a possibility of radioactive substances being released. However, no increase in radiation levels has been recorded so far.

This was reported by the chief engineer of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Alexander Titarchuk, as stated by RBK-Ukraine referencing Ukrinform.

The engineer explained that the sarcophagus is quite old and will soon be 40 years old. He also noted that the international community allocated funds to construct a new safe confinement, which is more expensive and required significant effort and health from the workers involved.

"Firstly, the shelter (after the Russian drone strike - ed.) has ceased to perform its function. Now there is a risk of radioactive substances being released due to various actions that may occur at the old shelter facility," Titarchuk stated.

At the same time, he assured that the situation at Chernobyl is currently under control.

According to the Kiev City State Administration, radiation levels in Kyiv and the Kyiv region remain normal, with no exceedances observed.

Specialists continuously monitor the situation, with measurements taken every 3 hours.

"City services are in contact with emergency services involved in addressing the aftermath of the Russian drone strike on Chernobyl. If necessary, the Kyiv emergency rescue service is ready to provide assistance," the administration explained.

Russian Attack on Chernobyl

Recall that today, February 14, Russia attacked the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (Chernobyl NPP) with a strike drone.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Russian drone that targeted the sarcophagus at Chernobyl NPP flew at an altitude of 85 meters, which is why it could not be detected by radar.

Later, the Security Service of Ukraine displayed the debris of the drone that attacked Chernobyl on February 14. The occupiers targeted the station with a "Shahed" type drone.
