The United States wants the war between Russia and Ukraine to come to an end. A lasting peace is necessary for this.
As reported by the correspondent of RBK-Ukraine, this was stated by U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"We want the war to end, we want the killings to stop, but we want to achieve a lasting peace, not a conflict in Europe in a few years," the U.S. Vice President emphasized.
Vance clarified that there have been a number of "good dialogues" regarding how to work together towards lasting peace. More such dialogues are expected in the coming days, weeks, and months.
Additionally, the Vice President was asked what the next steps would be if Ukraine is not ready to sit down for negotiations with Russia.
According to Vance, there has already been "progress" on this issue.
"Firstly, there are excellent members of the Ukrainian delegation. We have our incredible Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and General Kellogg (U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Kit Kellogg - ed.). It is important for us to come together and start talking," the Vice President noted.
He also added that negotiations are necessary to "see things through to the end."
Recall that today, February 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting with U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
It is still unclear what exactly they discussed and how the negotiations went.
This is the first meeting between Zelensky and Vance since Donald Trump came to power in the U.S.
Notably, Vance has already spoken at the Munich Security Conference. He mentioned the war between Russia and Ukraine only in passing. At the same time, the Vice President harshly criticized Europe.
