Russian soldiers in Syria are awaiting evacuation following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime. They are engaging in drinking and looting.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine citing the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on Telegram.
According to GUR, the remnants of the Russian military contingent in Syria are being concentrated at the Russian naval base in Tartus and the Russian air base in Khmeimim.
"Those Russians who have reached the evacuation points are typically drinking and looting while waiting for their flight," the intelligence clarified.
GUR emphasizes that daily between Khmeimim and Russian airfields, 4-5 military transport aircraft are operating.
Additionally, the Russians have sent their large landing ships "Ivan Gren" and "Alexander Ostrakovsky" to Tartus to transport military equipment and armament from there. As of now, the ships are in the Norwegian Sea and are expected to pass through the English Channel in a few days.
Meanwhile, the Russian cargo ship Sparta is moving towards Tartus, having departed from the city of Baltiysk. This also applies to the vessel Sparta II, which has left Saint Petersburg.
Intelligence sources clarify that the commander of the Russian contingent, Colonel-General Alexander Chaiko, has ordered the repair of military equipment being evacuated from Syria.
It is worth noting that the regime of Bashar al-Assad, a key ally of Russia, was recently overthrown in Syria. Against this backdrop, the Russians had to evacuate their contingent from Syria.
As noted by U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor John Feiner, the fall of Assad's regime demonstrates the weakening of Russia and Iran.
