To ensure stable energy supply for Ukraine, it is essential to develop additional nuclear generation, as it is the cheapest source of electricity.
This was stated by economic expert Boris Kushniruk, as reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing Censor.net.
According to him, the recent addition of over 830 MW of new capacity, primarily from gas generation, does not resolve the issue, as this electricity remains expensive and dependent on gas price fluctuations.
"It is clear that the government needs to assess how much and in what timeframe we can increase production from cheaper sources - nuclear generation and hydroelectric power. The volume and cost of electricity from these sources will be crucial for creating favorable conditions for post-war economic recovery," the expert noted.
Kushniruk emphasizes the necessity of investing in nuclear and hydro energy, particularly the completion of the 3rd and 4th units of the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant, as well as the finalization of the Tashlyk and Dniester Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Plants. In his opinion, these projects can provide Ukraine with affordable and stable electricity in the future.
