Ukraine and the United Kingdom have entered into a significant agreement in the field of security and defense. The project, valued at £1.6 billion, will be aimed at strengthening Ukraine's air defense.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Today, March 2, during a visit to Britain, a strategic agreement was reached by the Ukrainian delegation headed by President Volodymyr Zelensky, specifically the launch of the large-scale LMM-RapidRanger project to enhance Ukraine's air defense.
"As part of this initiative, we will receive over 5,000 LMM (Lightweight Multirole Missile) interceptor missiles and their launch systems," stated Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
He explained that the LMMs are highly accurate interceptor missiles that effectively destroy drones of the "Shahed" type. The minister emphasized that these missiles have already proven their effectiveness in battles from 2022 to 2024.
"This deal is one of the largest in Ukraine's history regarding security and defense. The project, amounting to £1.6 billion, aims to strengthen Ukraine's air defense by 2030. It is financed through a loan guaranteed by the British government agency UK Export Finance (UKEF)," Umerov said.
According to the defense minister, this project will be implemented in collaboration with the British company Thales, Ukrainian enterprises, and the government of the United Kingdom.

Umerov stated that this will enhance Ukraine's strategic independence in the field of air defense.

Let us remind you that today a summit dedicated to Ukraine took place in London. Leaders from over 10 countries, as well as representatives from the EU and NATO, participated in it.
During the press conference that followed the summit, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a new agreement to assist Ukraine.
He stated that the agreement would allow Ukraine to utilize £1.6 billion of British export financing to procure an additional 5,000 missiles for air defense.
