The agreement on the use of subsoil resources between Ukraine and the USA may be signed this Saturday. Negotiations are nearing completion.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Wall Street Journal.
The American publication The Wall Street Journal, referencing informed sources, stated that the agreement between Ukraine and the USA regarding the use of subsoil resources could be signed as early as this Saturday, February 22.
According to sources from the publication, the agreement is not yet finalized, but negotiations are approaching the final stage. It is still unclear when exactly the document will be signed.
A particularly important factor that expedited the conclusion of the agreement was the three-day visit of the US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Kurt Volker, to Kyiv.
Volker managed to significantly strengthen trust between the Ukrainian government and American partners, which in turn facilitated progress in the negotiations.
At this moment, the exact timeline for signing the agreement remains unknown, but according to sources, the process is nearing completion.
It is worth noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ordered his ministers not to sign the agreement proposed by the USA regarding access to rare earth resources in Ukraine, as it did not provide for any significant compensations.
In response to the refusal, the White House labeled this decision as "short-sighted."
