Former U.S. President Donald Trump shared his vision for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. He suggested that European countries should take a leading role and send peacekeepers to the nation.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing The Wall Street Journal.
During meetings with the leaders of France and Ukraine, Trump expressed his desire to see European troops that could monitor the ceasefire in Ukraine.
In Trump's view, the defense and support of Ukraine should be a priority for European states.
He emphasized that the United States is ready to support the agreements reached, but there are no plans for direct involvement of American military forces.
Trump also highlighted the importance of leveraging European influence to pressure China to help end Russian aggression.
Among the tools he proposed is the imposition of trade tariffs against China if Beijing refuses to assist in achieving a peaceful resolution.
The discussion regarding a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine is still in its early stages. Despite public statements from politicians in various countries about the potential deployment of an international contingent, no specific decisions or mechanisms have been established yet.
Earlier, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, a political analyst discussed how many countries could join the coalition of peacekeepers in Ukraine.
He also noted that Western experts have estimated their potential size, which could reach 40,000 personnel.
