The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, stated that guarantees for Ukraine are necessary to prevent further escalation of the war. However, these guarantees must also ensure peace.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Guardian.
When asked if he could rule out a military conflict between the UK and Russia in the event of British troops being sent to Ukraine, Starmer emphasized that the essence of security guarantees is to ensure peace and avoid military conflict.
"I do not want conflict in Ukraine, in Europe, and certainly not in the United Kingdom. I want stability in the United Kingdom. The way to ensure stability is for us to be able to protect the agreement in Ukraine, because our history tells us that if a conflict arises in Europe, it will wash up on our shores," Starmer said.
Let us remind you that today a summit of European leaders took place in London, and the key topic of the meeting was Ukraine.
Following the summit, the UK announced that it would take important steps to assist Ukraine. These include economic sanctions and pressure on Russia. In the event of a peace agreement, the UK is prepared to send a military contingent. According to Starmer, for these efforts to be successful, they must be supported by the United States.
