U.S. President Donald Trump may attempt to address the war in Ukraine during his first 100 days in office. This involves seeking a solution or a path toward joint dialogue.
This was mentioned by Theodoros Russopoulos, president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
He noted that Trump played a crucial role in the Middle East and in the release of some Israeli hostages.
"So, will he do something regarding Ukraine in his first 100 days? I believe he will try. And I have seen that the Kremlin, Putin, and all the people around him have already referred to Mr. Trump as someone closer to them than the previous administration," said Russopoulos.
In his view, personal relationships play a decisive role in political life and international relations. Therefore, the president of PACE believes that Trump might lead Ukraine toward finding a solution or at least seeking a common path for dialogue and a peaceful process.
"I am not one to predict the future. But from my experience, since we have worked with Mr. Trump, and we have experience in international history and such conflicts, those who consider themselves very powerful, if they do not use their power in the early days of their administration, their power fades away, you see. This could be an opportunity. Let’s hope for that," added the president of PACE.
Recall that even before winning the election, Donald Trump claimed that he would supposedly end the war in Ukraine in a single day. He also stated that he would like to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table.
Recently, Western media reported that Trump allegedly instructed special representative Keith Kellogg to end the war in Ukraine within 100 days. Media outlets even published what was claimed to be Trump's "peace plan," but Ukraine denied any discussion of such a plan.
The U.S. President stated that he would like to meet with the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. He also threatened Russia with sanctions and tariffs if it does not agree to peace.
