Yesterday, the United States imposed sanctions on the largest oil companies in Russia. Outgoing President Joe Biden acknowledged that these restrictions could lead to an increase in gasoline prices in the United States.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Bloomberg.
"Gas prices could likely rise by three to four cents per gallon," Biden stated.
He defended this measure as critically important for limiting the capabilities of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to wage war against Ukraine. According to the U.S. President, the sanctions will have a "profound impact on the growth of the Russian economy, making it harder for Putin to conduct his wars."
He emphasized that he decided to do everything possible within his powers to provide Ukraine with every possible advantage. At the same time, he denied that he took these actions because he wanted to support Kyiv before Donald Trump assumed office.
Biden also added that, in his view, lawmakers would be outraged if Trump decided to halt military aid to Ukraine.
It is worth noting that on January 10, the United States imposed sanctions against more than 30 Russian oil service companies. In addition, the restrictions also affected a Serbian company connected to "Gazprom Neft."
Furthermore, we reported yesterday that the EU is concerned that Trump may revoke Biden's sanctions against Russia after his inauguration. Currently, officials in the EU are reviewing the U.S. President's orders to understand which revocations would have the greatest impact on the European Union.
