The Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the High Council of Justice to dismiss Vsevolod Knyazev from his position as a Supreme Court judge. He was previously detained for accepting a bribe of 2.7 million dollars.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press service of the Supreme Court.
It is noted that on July 18, the High Council of Justice made the decision to dismiss Knyazev from the Supreme Court judge position.
On August 15, Knyazev attempted to appeal this decision in the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court.
"Following the examination of the cassation appeal today, December 12, 2024, the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court decided to leave unchanged the decision of the High Council of Justice dated July 18, 2024, regarding Knyazev V. S. being subjected to disciplinary action and relieved from the position of Supreme Court judge," the statement reads.
Recall that on May 15, 2023, law enforcement detained former Supreme Court Chairman Vsevolod Knyazev for bribery in the amount of 2.7 million dollars.
The next day, the plenum of the Supreme Court supported his early termination of powers, and Knyazev was also stripped of his position as court chairman.
On January 31, 2024, Knyazev was released from pre-trial detention after a bail of 18.168 million hryvnias was posted.
In June, The First Disciplinary Chamber of the High Council of Justice made the decision to dismiss Knyazev from the position of Supreme Court judge.
