Recall that Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine again on the night of February 14 with Shahed strike drones.
By morning, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported that one of the enemy drones hit the sarcophagus of the 4th reactor block of the Chernobyl NPP. This shelter was jointly constructed by Ukraine, the USA, and European countries.
As a result of the attack, a fire broke out on the station's premises, but it was quickly extinguished.
According to the head of state, the radiation background had not increased by morning. However, the damage to the sarcophagus was significant.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, for his part, promised that Ukraine would quickly restore the sarcophagus. All services are working on-site.
It is important to note that the sarcophagus over the fourth reactor block is designed to prevent the spread of nuclear dust. According to the Ministry of Energy, such an attack will undoubtedly lead to an increase in the radiation background.
