A group of Russian intelligence agents plotting terrorist attacks in the Odessa region has been uncovered.

The intelligence group of the Russian Federation (RF) has been exposed, which was preparing a series of terrorist attacks in the Odesa region. The criminals face life imprisonment.

This is reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Telegram channel of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

Details of the case

The offenders were apprehended while preparing an explosion near one of the regional police departments. The terrorists intended to set fire to several service vehicles, and then, when the police arrived at the fire scene, remotely detonate an improvised explosive device (IED)," the SBU writes.

To execute their plan, the criminals settled in a hostel near the target and purchased four canisters of gasoline for the arson. Specifically, they concealed explosives disguised as a fire extinguisher in a pre-prepared hideout.

The offenders were detained at the preparation stage for the terrorist act. Their trail was found through the investigation of the murder of a volunteer from the Odesa region, which occurred on January 20, 2025.

"At that time, the criminals set fire to the car of a local activist near his home, and when he came out to extinguish the fire, they activated the IED hidden in a backpack lying nearby," the SBU adds.

The suspects turned out to be three drug addicts aged between 23 and 45 and their previously convicted accomplice, aged 46. The latter acted separately from the group and was responsible for the production of IEDs and their placement in hideouts.

What they face

The detainees have been notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - a terrorist act that resulted in loss of life. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Recall that RBK-Ukraine reported that the SBU recently detained a military institute cadet who was preparing a missile strike on the barracks of her classmates on behalf of the FSB of the RF.
